We are seeking to appoint an enthusiastic and committed Principal Teacher of Business Education to lead our successful Department.
As Head of Department, the Principal Teacher is responsible for the effective leadership and management of the Department in all its aspects, including the key areas of curriculum development and delivery, policy and administration, management of resources, ethos and discipline, and staff development within the Department.
In addition to excellent proven teaching skills in the range of Business Education subjects, the successful candidate will demonstrate a sound understanding of current curricular issues in Scottish education in general as well as those relating to the teaching of Business Education. He/she must be able to:
- demonstrate strong leadership and management skills, including a commitment to quality assurance, self-evaluation and staff development;
- be adaptable, flexible and able to manage change in pursuing a high quality provision of Business Education at Heriot’s;
- show a vision for the further development of the Department;
- articulate the place of Business Education in the curriculum and what the subjects should seek to achieve in a child’s education.
The Business Education Department is staffed by full-time and part-time specialist teachers, including the Head of Department.
Business Education is introduced with a general Business course in S2. Certificate courses begin in S3 working towards National 5 presentation in Business Management, Economics and Accounting in S4, progressing to Higher and Advanced Higher level in S5 and S6. In addition, the department offers S6 pupils the opportunity to complete the Microsoft Office Specialist suite of IT qualifications. The Department presents high numbers of pupils for public examinations at all levels, and has an excellent record of success.
In addition to curricular commitments, the successful candidate will be required to participate fully in the co-curricular life of the School.
